Release Notes

This release is dedicated to the Adventure Works sample databases and related samples that ship for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Release Candidate 0 (RC0). This release uses the AdventureWorks2008R2 and AdventureWorksDWDenali sample databases. They have been upgraded to the SQL Server 2012 RC0 version.

These databases cannot be installed on any version of SQL Server other than SQL Server 2012 RC0.

The only change to AdventureWorks2008R2 OLTP database is the removal of the FILESTREAM dependency. The FILESTREAM properties have been removed from the Production.Document table. No additional schema or data changes have been made. Please be aware that the OLTP database name is not yet updated for SQL Server 2012 RC0 and remains AdventureWorks2008R2.

The only changes to the AdventureWorksDWDenali data warehouse are the additions of the FactProductInventory table, which contains inventory data, and more date data in the DimDate table to fill the years, 2001 to 2006. Please be aware that the AdventureWorksDWDenali database name is not yet updated for SQL Server 2012 RCO and remains AdventureWorksDWDenali.

Note: In the CTP3 version, the FactProductInventory table had a column named DateKey, of DATE type, that was foreign key into FullDateAlternateKey in DimDate. The new version of the table uses DimDate primary key, DateKey, in the relationship; the DATE type column was maintained in the table, but under the name: MovementDate.

Important:

To ensure proper working of the samples you must ensure that all databases and tabular models and samples belong to the same release version. For example, mixing the SQL Server Code-Named “Denali" CTP3 with SQL Server 2012 RC0 may cause issues as explained in the following example:
  • Building a SQL Server 2012 RC0 AdventureWorks Tabular Model using SQL Server Code-Named “Denali" CTP3 version of AdventureWorksDenaliDW will result in an error.

Install the databases by running code or the using the SQL Server Management Studio user interface. For step by step instructions, see SQL Server Samples Readme.

For pending changes for AdventureWorksDW in the SQL Server 2012 RTM release see SQL Server Samples Readme.

Thanks for the good work (it was a good idea to skip the FILESTREAM dependency)! Everything works smoothly and as expected - if you read the instructions and meet the requirements described above - .mdf is a fine format for databases :-)

I hope there is a MSI file to easily put on. bak file even is better than the MDF. It doesnot work in my 11.01440 version. No idea why. Possibly because my version is CTP3

There was not a separate download button on this page previously, so there's no change from the previous behavior. Please try clicking on the link for the specific download, and see if you have any issues with downloading.

Why not simply change the file name to indicate Denali or 2012RC0. As with the first reviewer ... I can't see the dowload button ??? What's the problem??
